Original Artwork For The Black Cauldron Andreas Deja, Walt Disney Studios
ANDRES DEJA/WALT DISNEY STUDIOS 1985, ORIGINAL CONCEPT ART FOR THE BLACK CAULDRON. Framed Original Graphite, pen and ink, and artist markers on paper of 11 x 13.5. SIGNED by Andreas Deja lower right corner.

THE ART IS IN FINE CONDITION AND WAS CUSTOM FLOATED, FRAMED AND GLAZED USING ALL ARCHIVAL MATERIALS, TO A SIZE OF 19 X 22. Andres Deja was inducted as A Disney Legend in 2015, after his staggering array of work on so many Disney animated films. His very first assignment for Disney was doing character visual development for The Black Cauldron alongside Tim Burton. His work on this was so good, he was moved in animation on this film.

This piece is some of the first work ever done by Mr. Deja at the Walt Disney Studios. This is a study of five facial poses for The Horned King, rendered in graphite, pen and ink, and artist markers. SIGNED by Andreas Deja in graphite in the lower right corner. Considering this mans career, this is an exceptional and very important piece. Ex: Joe Hale Archives, producer of The Black Cauldron for Walt Disney Studios. Andreas, who has brought to life heros, is known for his rich portraits of villainy, having animated Gaston in Beauty and the Beast, Jafar in Aladdin, and Scar in The Lion King. Villains are the most fun to animate, he says. Its fine to have a villain who beats people up and is ruthless, but the more important thing for me is whether or not they are interesting. The villains who have full personalities are the ones you remember. In 2006, Andreas was awarded the prestigious Winsor McCay Award for his contributions to the art of animation.

A copy of the original invoice will be included, and will provide both provenance and authenticity for the art. A very stunning original large piece with excellent presence (not a limited edition print, not a cell but an original piece of concept art by this Disney Legend). Perfect for the collector/lover of The Black Cauldron, Andreas Deja, Walt Disney Studios.

FRAMED SIZE: 19 x 22. We currently have listed an original piece in the hand of Tim Burton, in addition to pieces from the Tim Burton Studios and The Nightmare Before Christmas. (Please also note that the piece is framed and therefore heavy).
