Surrealist artist, Dali, met animation pioneer, Disney, at a dinner party in the home of Warner Brothers Hollywood movie mogul, Jack Warner, where they agreed to collaborate on a surrealist animated short film. The theme became Destino - a Mexican love ballad of a haunting romance between two star-crossed lovers: Dahlia, a mortal woman struggling to find love, and Chronos, an all-powerful titan and the personification of time itself. Over an 8-month period in 1945 and 1946, Dali created more than 200 sketch drawings, paintings, and storyboards for the project, but production ceased for financial reasons and the artwork was stored away in the Disney archives. In 1999, Roy Disney uncovered the art and in 2002 began the process of restoration and completion of the project. The short film was released in June 2003, and it has been called a melding of the styles of two of the 20th centurys most imaginative minds by Manisha Jukareddy in the August 8, 2019 edition of The Saturday Evening Post.
